I haven't used a phone book in a looonnng time, but I have to say that, for some things, browsing the yellow pages is probably more efficient that trying to figure out search terms that provide good local results....even on yp.com.
However, it doesn't do well at keeping current, and it's not always complete.

I happened to be looking at the phone book that my wife decided not to throw into recycling yesterday.

I looked up music, and found musical instruments, music lessons, etc..

The largest independent shop and lesson studio in the city was not in there.
One of the smallest, and now closed up for almost a year, was listed.
The newest mom-and-pop-bought-by-a-chain shop was not listed.
The mom-and-pop that was bought by the chain was not listed.

It's the most current book.

They charge you a fortune to be listed in a book almost no one uses.

Yeah, I remember when the first competitive book came out in our area.
They pulled a whole bunch of businesses out of the Bell book and did free ads for the first year.
Then they came knocking for ad fees the next year.
I was the general manager of the computer shop that I worked for and I told them to leave.
She came back again with her supervisor. I told them to leave.

I wasn't spending money on a service that screwed up my business for a year.

That translated "24-hour turnaround" into "24 hour service". Potential customers bitched that we couldn't be reached in the middle of the night.

A real postal code.
