The point is that, for better or worse, humans have overcome Darwin. The moment Hawking's legs gave out, even at 20 something, nature would have gotten him. You're never going to prevent everyone from being stupid. But reading comprehension is definitely a survival skill. If you don't have it, then you get what you deserve. Doesn't mean the warnings shouldn't be there.

Actually, Darwinian evolution hasn't been surpassed at all, merely redirected to other traits. Physical strength/ability is no longer the primal means of "fitness" to survive. Intellect now carries a great deal of weight and is subject to the very same means of natural selection.
