It took almost 40 years, but I'm now a Slash fan

So, back in 1987 I was a full-on hair metal, pointy guitar speed player. My reaction to AFD was not positive, especially when the videos showed them to be the smack addicts they were, and their appearance on Dead Pool just was cringe (for me). The top hat didn't help either. On top of it (hah), our band's singer at the time was a huge fan and we started learning the damn album anyway. We never fully got My Michelle and yep 40 years later I still have PTSD about it.

I do have positive memories of UYI 1&2. Especially You Could Be Mine, and Civil War. At that point though, I was still way more into Vai and Maiden. My reaction to the Black Album killed my love of Metallica, but I was still heavy on Zakk.

Around the time he paired up with Myles Kennedy, I really enjoyed the albums. Especially Anastasia, even though it kinda reminded me of Sweet Child. Around 2012, I started getting back into guitar and got a used Epi Les Paul. I'm not sure if Slash was a factor, or just being more of a fan of the heavy sound. I know I put Billy Gibbons pickups in it, so I was probably more influenced by the Reverend.

When the video for Killing Floor came out, I was like holy fuck. This is a great cover. A few weeks ago I finally got around to listening to the whole album and there isn't a bad tune on it.

I watched some interviews and he seems like a pretty decent guy. I just don't know I can ever listen to My Michelle again.

Slash is a good player. Unfortunately, GnR as a band is probably at their lowest point. GnR were the worst band that played at Back To The Beginning. Axl's voice is trashed and his timing is off.

I'm not a Slash fan but when Appetite was released, it was a breath of fresh air. Lies was an interesting change and then when UYI came out....meh

I did pick up Velvet Revolver's first album and did enjoy that. What interests me more was the energy from all of the albums that I owned.

That led me to Izzy's Ju Ju Hounds first album which really enjoyed. To me, Izzy was the energetic songwriter in G'n'R

Didn't know he did anything other than Guns and Roses. I really disliked Guns and Roses because, the vocals that sounded like Katherine Hepburn.

Looking back, I think AFD is one of the best debut albums ever. They just hit the magic at the right time. Now, GNR is a weird parody act. Axl's voice isn't that good, which is to be expected given the pitch the original songs are in. Plus, the new Izzy looks like the old Izzy which kinda creepy.

Velvet Revolver I had trouble getting into, probably because of Weiland. I'm not a fan of incorporating military look into stage costumes. With The Conspirators, I do think Myles is a good fit. I haven't listened to the latest album though.

But Orgy of The Damned, wow. I can't think of a single album I like all the songs on other than this. Maybe Still Got the Blues by Gary Moore. I watched some of the behind the scenes stuff and just how much of a passion project this is apparent. It's his best work.
