Incoming NGD...

Congrats
I love my OM 10. It's a superb sounding and playing guitar.

I would definitely like to get a higher end Larrivee, but my needs (and means) are modest. That said, this isn't some cheap beater, just not as dear as a 9 or 10 series...nor quite as drool inducing...

I just realized I completely biffed that one...I have an OM 5

I was also being overly nice...10s are bit more gaudy than interests me (not something I'd want to pay extra for on a guitar), the mahogany 5 and rosewood 9 series with the gloss finishes are really of the most interest to me. A L 5 would be . I also liked the old clear rectangular pickguards that Larrivee used to use, but I get the more traditional look has it's appeal as well.

There seems to be a degree of gaudiness that can't be avoided as you get into higher price ranges. I'd love to pay top dollar for high quality woods and expert craftsmanship, but at a certain point you have to start paying for inlay work and diamond-encrusted sound hole rings.

Sort of depends on the brand. This homely little number cost me quite a bit:

The forum housing he pic won't open for me, but is that a Waterloo?

I was looking at Martin 15 and 17 series guitars that are a nod to the era and style of guitars that inspired the Waterloos.

Out for Delivery by 7PM...

from a facility that's about 20 minutes away...and I'll be lucky if it shows up any earlier...

My first worldiness on full display yo.

That's a nice looking guitar. I don't think I've ever been in the same room with the brand but I want to play one.

Guitar arrived...unsurprisingly it's nicer in person than in the photos the dealer put on Reverb. I tried to capture the light figuring on the back & sides, but it's not really showing up. There are a couple of bear claw streaks here & there as well.

Plays wonderfully, but it's the sound that's got me. When I first strummed it, it sounded pretty damned good. So I pulled out my two Taks to compare...and initially they seemed to hold their own. As I played the Larrivee more and playing more things on it, overtones the likes of which I've never heard from any of my other acoustics over the years you jumping out. The perceived sustain from the overtones is remarkable. There's a complexity to the sound that makes me feel foolish for not doing this decades ago. That, however, has me excited for how this thing is going to age.

I've decided to learn a song a week going forward, specifically acoustic songs. No stylistic limits, but there will be technical limits. Something I should have done during lockdown...better late than never, right?
