How many Greatful Dead bands in your town?

I don’t know of any that are based here, but I’m sure there are at least a couple little crappy ones I’m not aware of.

When I get the email with upcoming shows listed, it’s always packed with tribute bands, not Dead but all kinds of other tribute acts. It seems like a weird trend to me.

You can pay a cover charge to see a band do covers of tunes you like.

OR you can pay a lot of money to see the band with the original, mostly original, or only the one that owns the band name.

Either way, you likely won't be hearing any new tunes.

Venue around here has been doing occasional "battle of the bands" trib nights. Beatles vs. Doors (featuring internet Nostradomus genation, if I'm reading it right) is coming up. A few weeks ago, they had Neil Diamond vs. Eddie Rabbitt. This is the darkest timeline.

The only thing I hate more than The Doors, is a Doors tribute band. They should beat those people with a rubber hose.

not one that I know of. (LA)

You're in luck...you can see most of them in one place, in a couple months:

None around here. Heck I’ve even posted a couple of Craigslist adds trying to get something together.
For shits and giggles cause nobody would hire such a thing.
Crickets.
Live music is on its last leg around here no matter the genre.
Nothing but solo acoustic troubadours strumming crappy covers playing for peanuts.
DJs spinning rap and hip hop get the rest of the work.
My alt/country/Rockabilly outfit still gets a few decent paying gigs, but it’s like pulling teeth. The bars expect you to pack the house with your friends every time and won’t even bother to update their Facebook page much less promote. Yea we have a following and they will come out once in a while but not EVERY TIME you play such and such rat hole.

I do not remember the name of the band, but many moons ago myself and another band member went to a new venue we were playing at the night before to check out the place. We ate and the band for that night was at the table next to us eating. A few tables over another person asked the waitress about the band for the night - she says 'They are a Grateful Dead cover band'. The singer from the band hears that and corrects her. He tells her - ' We are not a Dead cover band, we play rock, blues, and country". We stayed for a set and a half. Every song but one was a Dead cover. Not my thing at all. I just don't like jam bands. I'm too song oriented.
