How long did it take before you could hear what key a song was in?

Same here. I can recognize an Amaj from an Em, D7 etc. etc, that easy, I think most guitar oriented guys/gals can do that. Now if it's tuned down half a step I may not be able to detect it.

Yeah... And if you've played guitar for a whole those are some of the clues you use to get a sense of context for the key.
