hey, could you make a pickguard out of metal?

Peeker

jerkass
like, would it mess with the sound or anything?
the Squier shortscale bass thread brought this to mind...
rather than the plastic part around the pups, and the metal part for the knobs/jack, why not all metal?

or is there some reason it wouldn't work?

I'm thinking a chrome pickguard could look cool on the right guitar.

I couldn't, but if you have the skills you could.

well, I wasn't actually asking you to make me one...

but would it do weird things to your sound?

I guess not, if someone's manufactuaring them, right?

A good percentage of the USA Reverends have metal guards, it doesn't effect the sound at all. They look pretty cool too.

Yes you can, in fact, my strat has one. I think it's polished aluminum. It's quite awesome, but collects fingerprints like none other.

sweet!

yeah, I figured prints would be nasty

I'm diggin' that 1st Rev, and the last two as well.
though witht he 1st one, I'd want that armrest trim all the way around, I think...more symmetry

I looked for a pic of the second to last one for you, I figured you would dig the skulls. I know I do. Now if I could just get my hands on one.
:embarrassed:

Man, I wish that were mine. Ripped it from here. There is some really cool stuff there, and most of it includes DIY instructions as well.

Fender has used anodized aluminum on the strat and several early offset models (jazzmaster, jag) way back in ye olden times. They still sell them as aftermarket today, and you see them from time to time on custom shop and special run guitars.

That gear pickguard looks really good, exciting actually. Electronic circuitry would make more sense, kinda, but I really like that.

I've been into getting the gears lately after watching Hellboy 2, showing lots of incredible gears from underworld technology.
Too bad it's got that six string string retainer.

My bass has one, too.

I'd think twice before I changed to a metal pickguard just for looks.
You're taking a mostly acoustically inert part of your design, and changing it,
and with metal, making it a more active soundboard, under your strings.
That's a tone changer for sure.
