Guitar criticisms that you really don't get or understand.

I think Howie means that it doesn't matter if the hot chick's head was on the fat chick's body. You're not interested in the Lard Shape or Stretch Mark Finish, so it could have a perfect headstock on it and you still wouldn't buy it.

Yep.

The "volume control in the way on a strat" thing is the one that kills me. Seriously, its been over 60 years and most of us can play without hitting it. Or the middle pickup in the way of your picking.

I'll go with this. I have whacked the pickup selector when I was being sloppy, but never have had a problem with the volume control. Same with a middle pickup. No worries there either.

People that get all offended by Strats and Tele's with humbuckers and say why not just play a Gibson! Simple I like the way Strats and Teles play, but I like the way humbuckers sound in them.

This too. I now understand a little better what actionsquid is saying about the volume knob thing. I don't really play that way so it never affects me.

I don't get offended by humbuckers in those guitars to be honest. I do find they sound "wrong" with them though, but that's just a preference thing for me.

Oh, while we're on those guitars...people that say you can't play metal with single coils - bullshit.

I don't understand folks who insist that their guitars must have contoured bodies (i.e. tummy cuts, etc.) I've been a fat fuck for many years, but that doesn't stop me (or Johnny Hiland, for that matter) from playing the shit out of a non-relieved tele!

Pretty much.

For some things a pick is necessary. Howard's being silly on this one.

I just really like that bright and/or growly sound of folks like Simon Gallup, Jean-Jacques Burnel, Peter Hook, etc. It's obviously not the ticket for all kinds of stuff, but in a rock context I tend to really prefer it.

I just like that attack! :rawk:

Yeah, that attack is necessary, in my experience especially when you venture into uptempo hard rock and metal stuff (well, unless you're Steve Harris or Geddy Lee, who are both very percussive players). The bass tends to get lost in the mix otherwise.

For me, it's the classic "lack of upper fret access".

If this were 50 years ago you'd have a point. Today there are a variety of Strat style guitars with easy upper fret access, a flat fret board radius and choice of fret size. We're not stuck with 50 style Strats anymore. If you're use to playing custom Strats with great features, an old Strat with a curved fretboard radius and small frets is more difficult to play. Welcome to the 21st century. No longer must we conform to technology built by a guy who didn't even play guitar.
