Gibson’s NAMM booth

I had a weird sense of deja vu looking at that SG, and finally realized where I'd seen those colors before: at a pop up Hallowe'en store.

Jesus Christ, Gibson. Make me want to put out my eyes.

Those finishes suck. It seems they haven't managed to figure out how to appeal to people who might actually buy their guitars. I see about 4 guitars in that pile that are appealing to me based on looks.

Here Gibson, build more like this....

I mean, @Mark Wein and I are like the only guys in the world to look at a sea of Les Pauls and dig the one they called latte.

In general I’m not big on set neck short scale guitars.

Says the guy with the Gretsch 5120

I’m not an LP fan either. Mostly because the neck angle hurts my wrist and I wreck my forearm on the top. The best one I’ve ever played was my buddy’s epi.

To be fair the Gretsch was $500, and I bought it with the intention of using it on a fair rate basis.

If I’m spending Gibson Les Paul money it had better be my everyday guitar.

I know I'm probably in the minority, but I really love when flame maple tops have a lot of distinctive mineral streaking. I think it makes the top more interesting as different details go in each direction.

Holy shitballs that’s hot.

Yup, when Gibson gets it right, it can be heartbreakingly right. It's just too bad that so many Gibsons I've handled and played over the past 20 years have been wrong. Which reminds me - I really need to get a new nut on my 2012 LP "junior special" P90 (the supposedly "pleked" nut is cut too far toward the FB edge on the high-E).
