Do you still have your first real guitar?

The fates already f'ked me sideways
Post em if you got em (or if you remember them).

Check out the quality work on that headstock. I bought this ES 330 copy in 1983 from some guy named Bill who was teaching himself luthiery in his basement. The last I heard of him, he was a grave digger for one of the local cemeteries. I think this was rebuilt from some old Japanese guitar. The thing is that it still plays great. Not good, great. It makes me wonder why I don't play it more often. I put a set of Dimarzio PAF prototypes that were made for Gibson in it. It’s fully hollow. I've played everything from jazz to country to rock to punk to bad free form improvisation on it. And it always works well. I really need to play it more. The neck has a slim taper profile. I paid $75 or $100 for it back then.

I have my first guitar--a no name 3/4 size acoustic that I got when I was 9. I don't have my first real acoustic, a pretty nice Yamaha, as I sold it to buy a classical guitar when I was studying that in HS. I also don't have my first electric, an Ibanez Roadstar II strat copy. I do have my second electric, a MIJ Squier HH Strat that I got my senior year of HS.

My friend Paul and I used to sell this guitar to each other when we needed money. We can only sell it to each other. And the price is always $125 with a hard case. Paul and I have known each other since our high school days. We are still close.

My first real guitar was one of those Epiphone strat copies that had “G I B S O N” on the truss cover. It was trash and I eventually dropped it off at Goodwill. My first decent guitar was a 1997 MIM strat. It was great for a long time but one winter in NYC the neck started acting up and it needed a truss rod adjustment once a week. Around the same time I bought a Les Paul Tribute. Five days later the strat was dumped on Craigslist.

My uncle bought this as a Christmas present for one of his children. But, his ex-wife blocked him from any contact, or gift giving with his children after their divorce. It ended up with me in my final year of college, after he passed away. It’s the guitar that started me playing.

No. My first "real" acoustic was a family heirloom, so at some point I had to surrender it to my cousin, who had a more direct claim to it. My first electric, a Mexican strat, I traded for my American tele, which has been my main electric since 98.

Nope. Technically it was a hand-me-down from my oldest brother, but he didn’t know it at the time.

It was a catalog LP copy. It looked like a n LP Custom in black. It had binding. The neck was bolt on.

Perfectly fine guitar to get started on.
I had to have some work done to get it in shape, but with strings and labour, it cost about $45 if I remember right.
This was late 70s, I guess.

My nephew snagged it for a while.
Then, gave it back to my brother. As far as I know, he still has it.

All of my first guitars are gone. I sold my first acoustic and sadly my electric was stolen after a break in into our home around 2014. I have this guitar since 1977 and now it is gone. Needless to say my Danelectro DC3 was taken with my first electric - a heavily modified Memphis DC TV Junior

This is what the 12th fret action on this thing looks like with no buzzing anywhere. I haven't touched this thing in a year or so. And it was mostly in tune. It comes out of retirement. I can't just let this thing sit.

I don't have the same guitar - I let a coworker borrow it and then he moved to Oregon - but I have one that is the same model. It's a Kent/Guyatone/Tokyo Guitar Co. guitar, so I guess it depends on your definition of "real" guitar, but it's either that or my Telecaster, and I still have that one too. I'm not much of a flipper, and as much as I appreciate all kinds of instruments, I don't have the space or reason to buy any more. Although if a gold top P-90 Les Paul came my way, I'd find somewhere to put it :thu:
