When your spouse yells “Your ears must be half deaf to not realize how loud that is!” The correct answer is not “It’s okay, I’m wearing ear plugs.”

Likewise, the correct answer to “Can’t you just use headphones?” is not “That would defeat the purpose!”

The correct answers are….

“I have to play the amp this loud in order to feel the feedback loop.”

and

“Headphones are no good because they don’t shake the walls.”

I have tried to explain the feedback thing before and he doesn’t get it. Next time he complains I’m going to hand him an SG tuned to C in his hands, tell him to stand in front of the speakers, and show him the difference between clean and quiet, fuzz, a Russian muff, and a Russian muff with the volume up so loud that it screeches any time the strings aren’t muted. If his head doesn’t explode I might engage the Hizumitas.

Buy him a pair of Apple AirPod Max headphones to wear while you play your amps loud. Those things are amazing for blocking out sound. If he uses them while listening to things on an iPad, MacBook, iMac, or any brand of similar tech, he will barely notice the loud amps.
