Best way to grab them. hold down the top with one hand (left is best), then put the other hand underneath him/her and lift that way. Since it is a wild bunny leather gloves might be a good idea. I've picked up way more than a few rabbit before.....
We put seed down on a board in the yard. We have one squirrel that will lay flat on his stomach with his legs splayed out to either side. At first I thought maybe it had broken legs but it seems to be fine.Just saw a bun under a hedge I trimmed lounging like a dog with it's hind legs sticking out at like a 45 degree angle. Don't know if I've ever seen that. Thought it might have been sick or suffering from the wet heat but it hopped away when I came closer. Most commonly sighted land critter at the mansion.

No rabbits in NorCal (at least where we are), and the jackrabbits are passing rare these days.
Really? They are all over the place around here....little ones not bigger ones like we see up in Washington where they are also all over the place. The dogs try to chase them but have no chance. My dog is getting old and has pretty much given up chasing them. Coyotes might get some of them but I think they are more after the cats (and cat food)
Down in the valley, with all the paving and building, there just isn't any room for jackrabbits anymore, except in some of the bayland preserves.
I tried a board in the window well last night for self-rescue but it rained and/or was too steep. We put seed down on a board in the yard. Well sure down near the bay but I've seen them in West San Jose as well as here in Cupertino and Saratoga. But they aren't jackrabbits they are quite small brown and grey bunnies
