Attacked by wild rabid cat!

Yesterday I was out with Mrs D and my step-daughter. We we're looking at cats to be adopted when in an entirely unprovoked incident I was brutally assalted by one of the kitties. And now that cat is expecting us to take him home after his eye surgery in the next two weeks. He somehow thought sucking up to me was the key.

Cut his nuts off and confine him to your house!

Force him to eat good quality food, and keep a laser pointer ( and other objects if discipline) on hand.

That will teach him.

I'm not really a cat person at all, but when we got married the understanding was that once we bought a house we would get a cat. My step-daughter has a cat at her Dad's house. I'd rather have a dog. Or a couple rabbits. But a cat it is. We went looking for a bonded pair, but this cat was really sweet and perfect for us. Mellow with a definite playful side. We should find out Thursday when the surgery is. The inner eyelid on his left eye will not retract so he is currently functionally blind in one eye.

I would forgo the surgery

Honestly, if you're keeping him inside, and you should, he probably wouldn't know the difference. Unless it's a trvial procedure, to the effect of "eh, while we're here, might as well clip it..." I'd be inclined to not bother.

Right now the cat is at an adoption agency and they want to do the surgery. Their dime. If we took the cat now they would insist on the surgery on OUR dime. I'd rather spend their dime.

Not even the dime, just the trauma/recovery vs benefit for the cat. If the rescue wants to do it, they're probably right.
