Dig it! Archtops. Tell me what y'all know. NOW NGD!

Mrs Wein convinced me (as she did 14 years ago with my Les Paul) that I should just buy it since I need the instrument, can't find anything else usable at a lower pricepoint and we can always use one more tax deduction for the year :)p).

Chain that woman to a radiator in the basement if you need to, but don't ever let her go.

You were playing that on Monday for our lesson. I hadnt caught up on this thread and didnt realize it was a new guitar. I was like "oh he's playing the Joe Pass"

Mark, I was reading up your new guitar trying to find out whether it was solid wood or laminate (which matters not once you cut holes in the top to install pups and electronics).

Anyway, apparently they went through a period of putting a sound post in the X-500. Does yours have one? I'm not sure it matters, I'm just interested.

I used to lust the X-500 when I was totally obsessed with Yes, but didn't care for the ES-175. The X-500 was a far cooler alternative to me...and remains so.

Sounds really sweet by the way.

I don't think it does. I took a quick peek and didn't see one but it definitely still feeds back at volume so I'm going with "no" on the sound post.

And thanks!

My Korean Casino has a sound post but the Japanese one does not. It's easier to get the Japanese one to feed back but it's pretty controllable once you get used to it, especially if you aren't using a ton of gain.

So three weeks later. Lots of other archtops played at Namm and plenty of miles on my Guild (although none in a performing situation yet) and I absolutely love this guitar. Next week I'll be back to playing in my combos and I'll be curious how it does in that setting through the classroom Twin.

I also realized while watching some Ted Greene videos that my move to a 70's Guild archtop ad a telecaster this week seems like I'm channeling Ted
