Anyone use a digital TV converter box??

We are ditching satellite TV since we only watch local stations. We use Netflix and the internet for everything else.

But since we have an analog TV (I know...I know )we need to get a converter box (and an antenna). Anyone have one they can recommend? A lot seem to get pretty bad reviews on the net...

Sorry - I don't. Our old TV crapped out just before digital TV became the standard format so we just bought a new one.

I had one for a short while, it worked fine. I'm tempted to hook it up to the HD simply because it tuned in better than the current TV's tuner with the same indoor antenna.

I have a couple for old TV's in the kid's rooms. I got them for free from the cable company when the digital transition happened. I have no idea what brand they are, as they are stamped Comcast on the front. They seem to work fine.

Yeah, I had one. Worked fine. Antennas are a bit trickier. I have two of them and only one of them is even decent.

Should be able to get one for dirt cheap now. Retailers jacked up the prices during the coupon era. As I recall, you received two coupons when you sent in your request, so every converter out there suddenly cost more than the value of two coupons put together.

There's a bunch of tutorials on YouTube for building a digital antenna out of coat hangers. I don't know how good that would be, but considering that every antenna I purchased turned out to be a useless POS, it's worth a shot. I ended having to go to satellite TV, because I couldn't pick up the digital signals. Thanks a lot, FCC.

i've got a magnavox converter box and a digital amplified antenna.......except for the asstard next door with his ham radio, it works great for me. with the digital antenna, it gets a pretty darn good picture too. i've had mine since they switched to digital broadcasting. i think i gave like $30 for it...maybe less. :thu:

I have one...I'll have to check the brand (I think its apex or something like that).

HORRIBLE

But fuck cable...the only thing I watch on tv is football...so it works for that (barely).
