Save your pennies and buy a Kauer because in the end it's still a Kauer knock off.

Btw, I don't think of it as a kauer knock off. Joe and his team make a great guitar. I like a particular color scheme from the daylighter I posted so I thought I could have joe build me something along similar lines.

I love how the Growler sounds and plays.

So where did the original picture and post go? I certainly didn't invent color schemes. I'm genuinely am curious.

Doug is pissed...

Why would he be pissed? Like he said, he didn't invent color schemes

Doug - you can see the original post in a quote on the first page. If you do a search on the internet for koa kauer daylighter, it's the first one that comes up

I just re-read you're original post.
To me it reads like you want Balauger to build you a guitar like the Kauer. I do realize that you specifically mention that Joe can build you a Growler like the Kauer, but at that point of this thread you don't mention anything about only wanting the color scheme of the Kauer. That gets mentioned much later, after Doug chimed in. (Iirc).
I now understand what you meant in you're OP but at least to me originally it reads that you wanted Joe to make you a Kauer copy.
Just my .02.

Ahhhh... makes sense. I need to stop drinking and posting.

I'm not pissed, more confused by this. You delete your original post in reaction to what I assume was a rash of "so you want to make a Kauer copy" post then tell me to go read the quoted one... which has nothing to do with color but rather a specific semi hollow version. Again, I don't really care unless you are really asking Joe to make you an exact Kauer copy then I do care. Some.

But the reality is John, I'm glad you aren't my customer. You complain about the price of my guitars (or anything over about 1200 dollars) with all the normal excuses "I have kids", "that's way too much", "but I can get XYZ for less" ect ect that is so common of many people. I certainly won't begrudge that attitude, because it IS expensive and I'm the first to tout how many amazing guitars you can get now at that price point (including Titan lol). But, I look at these comments with a bit of skepticism from you because of the shear volume of guitars you do purchase. I know it's BS because if you simply wanted to stop moving laterally along a certain price point we all know that's do able with some time and self restraint so lets stop talking about guitars purely on price.

Frankly though, being on the manufacturing end of this, the main reason I'm glad you aren't my customer is because I know for a fact no guitar on earth will make you truly happy and honestly I just don't want to commit the next 6-9 months of my life on a guitar I know you will have less than 2 weeks. This isn't just you, I've had customers in the past like that and it really just zaps the fun out of it on my end and opposite of what people think, I make very, very little money doing this. The fun of it is really the main reward.

I have customers who just enjoy owning a bit of everything and the only way they can do that is to never keep anything for an extended stretch (see the GPOTD with the mango Daylighter, that's a prime example). If that's your quest, then more power to you, I'll just happily not be a part of it. I'm not foolish enough to think every guitar I build will find a home for life but there is a balance.

Best of luck with your next Balauger, Joe makes a great guitar and I'm sure it'll bring you the short term enjoyment you desire.

Its gotta be hard to spend all of the time and effort on building a custom guitar to only see the buyer sell it down the road. Its why I don't think I could ever get into the guitar building business (that and the lack of skills and cash ). I will say that I used to flip guitars pretty regularly, but after buying my McFeely, that has pretty much stopped. I have added a couple, but those aren't going anywhere either. There is something about getting a guitar built for you that is awesome, but you really need to know what you want first. I am hoping in the next couple of years to be able to order one from you. I've got a small window of paying off my student loans and my kids going off to college where I can probably sneak it in  If my kids end up going to college where my wife is a professor and we don't have to pay tuition, I might be able to get 2

Whoa… back up for a moment. I deleted my first post because I honestly didn’t feel like going back and forth about it with people. I was tired and it was late when I posted it so I didn’t specify what I liked about the Daylighter. But at the end of the day, if I wanted to have a guitar built for me that has aesthetics similar to a guitar that already existed, then that’s my prerogative. Just as you make guitars of similar shape as other builders. You want to build them so you do.

You then asked what you missed in the thread because I deleted my original post. In turn, I pointed you in the direction of where you could see it. Again, I can take fault for not being more specific on what I liked from your build that I would ask Joe to make for me because it was late, I had been drinking and I was on my phone(not a computer). My original post mentioned liking the aesthetics of the Daylighter and I asked if it would be lame to use those in a Balaguer build. So yes, I was talking about color AND the semi-hollow aspect of it. I guess I have should have been more specific in my original response to you.

But please don’t presume you know a thing about what makes me happy as far as guitars go stating that no guitar will ever make me happy. I have guitars that I love that I will never sell. The rest are in a constant rotation of in and out. And please don’t presume you know about my finances… price IS a factor. If you don’t believe me, that’s not my problem.

And to say that you are glad I am NOT your customer… that’s kind of a shock and a slap in the face. I’ve never heard of a manufacturer say that to a person…. potential customer or not(maybe Ed Roman… but that’s a different discussion altogether). Just because I buy and sell at my own digression? I didn’t know that people selling your builds meant that much to you.

So what if I sell a guitar that a builder makes me. It’s my choice. They would have my money at that point. Just because I sell something doesn’t mean I wouldn’t try it again or a different model from that manufacturer. Plus, the passive aggressiveness is pretty strong in your response… I could have done without that.

But hey… at the end of the day, I guess I’ll never buy a Kauer or Titan. But you’re ok with that so we’re square.
