4x12 vs 2 1x12's

cvogue

Yes, that's Oolong. :)
So... my rig is a Blackstar HT 40 combo (put a Celestion creamback in it) with the 1x12 extension cab (put a Greenback in it).

It sounds pretty good but sometimes I'd like more "oomph" without getting muddy.

A friend of mine has a Marshal 1960BX that he may let me borrow (straight cab with 4 greenbacks).

I'm wondering what the difference in sound would be... any insight appreciated.

3 more db's.

Beyond that 4 greenbacks should be similar in tone, but with more phase-y/cream-y-ness from their soundwaves interacting.

To add - with a 4x12, you will get more projection and bottom end boom. If you have a partial open back, you will have more mids and highs.
