I have very fond memories of going to those old Trans Am races as kid. There were so many cool cars in the parking lot and the infield as well as on the track. There were always exotic sports cars on display as well as muscle cars.
They also had a smaller class dominated by 911's and BMWs that raced along with the pony cars. Those were some great times.

The Trans Am was THE BEST racing series in the US ever! cool cars (both Under 2.0L and Over 2.0L), all the best drivers, engineers, great road racing tracks.... during my vintage racing days did a few Trans Am reunion races (in my '66 911 2.0L) wherein some of these cars were un-retired, and a lot of replicas/tributes were fielded.

some of the original drivers and engineers would regularly turn up (McComb, Minter, P.Jones, Follmer, Posey, Walt Hane, etc) and drive (Adamowicz drove my car!).... very, very cool. those guys, many years later, were still amped about the series. The sound of those Mustangs is impressive....
