Anyone get their gain from a pedal only?

I keep a Friedman be-od around in case one day, I decide to get a pedal platform amp.

I’ve owned this and the Deluxe numerous times and I’ve never bonded with it. I keep one around as a back up and decided to bring it to rehearsal tonight. I ran it through a Carvin Legacy halfstack and… holy lord! Tone for days. After trying this pedal with so many different amps, it finally gave me the tone I had always hoped for! Gain for days with clarity and teeth!

Absolutely sick sounding.

I don’t think I would use it before my suhr pt rig or even my line 6 Hx rig but if I was in a situation where a clean amp was provided, it would be great!
 
I used to when I first started playing and then for my first gigging rig.

My first practice amp had a switch to go from clean to dirt. Clean was fairly flat and lifeless and dirt was just a bee in a jam jar buzz. My first dirt pedal was a Boss DS-1 (that I still have) and was a massive improvement. W

hen I got to playing in my first band, I had moved from the 20w jam jar practice amp to a Fender Bassman 135 head with a homebuilt 2x12". The Bassman needed a major service when I got and I had it done by the local tv and radio repairman who was old school and understood valve amps. He set it up to stay clean all the way up so I kept the DS-1 in front for my first couple of years gigging.

Moved to a rack after that and then a combo amp with decent dirt channels so not used one since then. I was carrying a Vox Satchurator around as a back up for awhile, but now have a modeller pedal as my back up.
 
I used to use pedals exclusively for dirt with a clean amp. My first decent amp was a 60 watt Fender Blues Deville 410 which I would set clean. I would typically stack dirt pedals to get my overdriven sounds.
 
I typically run my Carr Rambler around 3-3.5 in the 30w pentode mode, so it's pretty darn clean. I can get amp breakup in triode 12w mode, but I usually don't bother. I have other amp options if I want amp gain, but Im addicted to the Carr's cleans. A couple of lower gain stages is typically all I need or want. If any more gain is needed I usually either add a FF in front, or pull out the old Rat2.
 
I can see having two different distortion pedals on your board if you’re frequently plugging into different backlines. Personally, I’ll do my amp-as-distortion whenever possible, but if I have to go direce or plug into a clean amp, I’ll just go Profiler.
 
Yeah, I typically do that when I use my Origin 50 amp, as that has very little gain - unless you use an attentuator and crank the master.
Depending on the music it's one of three pedals, the TC Dark Matter (Marshall type distortion), TC Grand Magus (RAT clone) or an OCD. Plus some sort of tube screamer in front of that when neeeded. This also works great with any amp that has a decent clean channel.

I'm using an Origin as well - though the 20, in my case. Just been settling on my pedals - think I may have solved it today. Wampler Ratsbane, EQD Plumes, BMF Purple Nurple.

Yeah that should cover a lot of ground :wink:
With an amp like that you do need a few drive pedals, not to mention boosts.
