Kick Henry Jackassowski
I just signed up for bass lessons. This time I’m doing School of Rock because it’s a performance based program. There will be two lessons a week, one private, one group. At the end of each season there’s a performance, like a recital but in a brewery that serves beer in the early afternoon.

I’m not doing this because I expect it to get me any farther than I could on my own. I picked it because having a group of people relying on me to show up and play will give me a reason to stop looking at the internet and actually practice every day.

I did have to spend money to buy a nice Gator transit case to fit my bass. I’ve been playing bass (on and off) for over a decade and never bothered to buy a case. They’ve just been sitting in racks all this time. I might buy some cheap Chinese brand cases on Amazon for all of my basses so that dust doesn’t get into the pots!

That sounds like fun and a good approach to ensure motivation.

Of course out of a huge group of people I’m the only who plays bass. There is one guitar player who is working on one song. So everybody else has two songs to learn and I have (at least) five. I’m just going to figure out how to fake this shit for the next month and then worry about getting it right when I’m up to speed. I’m telling them that next season they have to pick songs in The Bassist’s Fake Book.

What's a book?

It’s like a tab but there’s a chance that someone checked it for accuracy.
It's funny - back in the dark ages I obtained some books - bob dylan, simon and garfunkel, elvis costello, etc. I've moved with them numerous times and hadn't opened one up until this second and started playing "Help"
