Vaccine thread

Had a short day Friday, found out there was a walk up no appointment place. I've been eligible for quite a while because I'm a smoker and construction worker. March 25th, I got the runs. It lasted a month. Still don't know why. Anyways, it's been over for a couple of weeks so, started looking for a no appointment place. One day I'm off at noon, next day I work til six so, appointments are hard, have to take the whole day off. Got the Janssen one dose at two minutes till noon Friday. Hit the bank after 15 minute wait, got the nachos loco for lunch and head home. Drive home was weird. Last time I got hi was 15? years ago. You know how great music is even better when you are stoned? It was like that. Worked on front of house where wife's roses are today. Took up the cardboard wife put down last year, put more cardboard down, covered with mulch. Got it cleaned up, ready to put down the much, sat down and thought man, I'm exhausted. Took a nap then finished it. So good so far.

I just got my second shot - of Shingrix. The first was way back in January, I was waiting to complete the COVID business to get the second. The window is up to 6 months so no problem, just glad to get it done.

The first Shingrix made me feel like crap the next day, worse than either COVID dose. Hoping this won’t be as bad, but I’m keeping tomorrow open so I can hibernate if needed.

Just got my 2nd one 3 weeks ago, I guess I'm good to go now for getting a covid vaccine.

Speaking of which, my work just called me and told me they will be having someone come in to administer the Moderna vaccine next Friday, so I signed up for it.

Is the Moderna vaccine any good? @Tiltsta ?

The Moderna vaccine is very good. It is indistinguishable from the Pfizer vaccine in most respects, and even where there are differences it is likely due to clinical trial design rather than anything that really matters. As always, consult your physician for real medical advice.

Moderna shot number one in my arm just about 3 minutes ago.

Glad to finally get an appointment. We are about 2 months behind the US as we didn’t do emergency use approval and did a slower full review and approval of vaccines. I am no longer a lab worker, only a director of lab work, so I didn’t get any early special vaccine access for this pandemic.

I had the second Moderna shot on Tuesday. The next day I had some arm pain and a headache. The day after that I felt like I had a massive hangover. After that I was fine. I guess I know I mounted a robust immune response. :)

Not the best vaccine experience, and not the worst.

got pfizer poke number 2 over lunch today.
the first one left my shoulder a little tender, but really nothing more than that.
i'll see how i feel tomorrow

Got my first Pfizer shot last Wednesday. Felt exhausted and crappy at night, but I already woke up feeling a bit off, so I'm not gonna blame it on the vaccine. Slept like shit the night after because apparently I turn to my right shoulder in my sleep a lot (I asked them to put it in my right arm, as I'm left-handed), and I woke up every time after putting weight on it. Didn't feel great the day after, but again, that's just as likely to be down to two nights sleeping like shit. Other than that it has been fine. Next one is scheduled for August.

It appears to me that most folks 12+ have either received at least one shot by now or are in that group that - for whatever reason now - has decided that vaccinations are the devil's (or Bill Gates', or George Soros', or Dr. Fauci's, or insert-your-boogy-man-here) tool. Unfortunately, that means that about 35% of the population are likely to remain unvaccinated and thus provide an excellent source of petri dishes for further mutation of the Covid-19 SARS virus...

from what i've read about this virus (and others similar) since it's already bounced around the planet several times, we're not likely to be rid of it for a thousand years.
we haven't stamped out flu or colds and aren't going to. too bad this one is several times deadlier.
maybe our 35% are going to darwin themselves away.

Or (perhaps more likely given the experience of the "Spanish" flu), SARS-COv-2 will mutate itself into a non-deadly, merely annoying form that will continue to pester humanity for generations...

except that the mutations thus far are more and more virulent.
