I was really hoping today would be a HNAD but.....

I recently changed from a Les Paul into a Marshall to a Telecaster into a tweed Fender Blues Jr. I love the amp tone, but went to GC to see if I could find something I liked better, and maybe with a few more wattage . I played every Fender amp they had: Deluxe Reverbs,Twin Reverb,Princeton Reverb,Blues Deluxe and a Champ. I also tried out a Vox AC15.

I had $1000 burning a hole in my pocket but i couldn't find anything i liked better than the Tweed Blues jr i am playing thru . I am using a BIG clean sound with alot of compression, right on the edge of breakup and as much as i liked the amps I played thru nothing touched what I have .The Blues Jr uses EL84 tubes, while the Fender amps are all either 6l6 or 6 v6 and I think that may be the key to the sound I like so much.

oh well!

It comes as no surprise to me that you would gravitate toward the EL84 sound after all the years of playing Marshalls...the 6L6/6V6 tone is a pretty big departure from what has been your sound...

There are plenty of mid-wattage EL84/EL34 amps out there that have higher headroom...even some of the Orange amps will do what you're looking for even though they are mostly associated with big gain...

I am running a clean punchy sound for about 80%of the sets, with a caitlinbread Dirty Little Secret for just a touch of over drive on the rock songs . It's been a BIG adjustment for me but the guys in the band are raving about how well I compliment the other guitarist's sound and make the band sound fuller( which is exactly what i wanted)
My tone is very close to this, with maybe just a touch more oomph

That is quite an adjustment from a LP into a Marshall.

I recently sold both of my EL84 amps (Kustom Defender 5-watt, Monoprice "Stage Right" 15-watt) and have been thinking strongly of either a Blues Jr or Pro Jr as a replacement. I previously had a Pro Jr and liked it a lot, and I see so many Blues Jrs I figure I must be missing something...
