ZZ Top have revealed dates for a Summer 2022 US tour. Plus, they’ve announced the release of a new album called RAW, which essentially serves as the soundtrack to their 2019 Netflix documentary That Little Ol’ Band From Texas.

The two-month US outing, dubbed “The Raw Whisky Tour,” kicks off May 27th in San Diego and runs through a July 27th show in Harrington, Delaware. Pre-sales begin today (March 8th) for most dates via Ticketmaster, with the general on-sale date set for Friday (March 11th). As of now, the band also has one single date scheduled for a month later on August 27th in Beaver Dam, Kentucky.

The US run follows a previously announced Canadian jaunt that launches April 22nd and wraps up May 14th. Tickets for that tour are also available via Ticketmaster.

The legendary band is still going strong despite the sudden passing of longtime bassist Dusty Hill last year. Elwood Francis, a guitar tech for the band, has stepped in to replace Hill in the group’s touring lineup.

I wonder if Elwood still has to do guitar tech duties in addition to filling Dusty's big ol boots.

It amazes me how many high-profile musicians seem determined to keep playing and touring until they literally drop (like Dusty did). I just hope it is because that's what they want to do, and not because they have to.

I caught ZZ Top with Elwood last fall at our county fair. I've seen ZZ Top many times over the years. I'd rank Elwood as capable, but nowhere close to Dusty. I don't recall him singing at all.

I'm a bit surprised they're going to do another tour. My take away from that show was that they were fulfilling their commitments by finishing the tour, but I really didn't see them pushing on with that lineup. Especially since Billy released a solo album last year.

All ZZ Top songs from Tres Hombres onward credit Gibbons/Hill/Beard as the songwriters. Unless Beard or Gibbons is extremely stupid, I'd say they have more money than they'll be able to spend in several lifetimes.

Same here. I assumed Elwood was sitting in so that they could fulfill their commitments for that tour, then that would be the end of it. I figured anything in the future would be the Billy Gibbons band. If there even was future touring - Gibbons is 72.

Not to mention that Frank Beard loathes Gibbons (at least if you can believe David Blainey). On the other hand, maybe 50 years of making music together builds something that they don't want to let go of.

You never know. They did recently sell their catalog for $50 million. They have employees they want to have a pay check.
