Yamaha Pacifica mod time!!

Well, as of today, my nephew will not be getting the $25 Yamaha Pacifica for his birthday. My sister made it pretty clear that they have no more room for any more junk so hey, fine with me. I really don't consider a guitar "junk" by any means but whatever. So, I have changed stings and cleaned the fretboard and it plays pretty nice. Doesn't stay in tune for shit and the volume knob is so loose that it moves on it's own. The pickups don't sound half bad but I think there's room for improvement. I think this will be a decent project so this is what I'm planning..

New trem since the old one is pretty lame
New pickups
better tuners (preferably locking)
new pots, wiring, etc.

I haven't looked into a trem yet but I'm thinking a replacement wilkinson or something to that extent should fit. I have take some measurements. Pickups, I'm not sure yet. I've been browsing on Seymore Duncan's site and am thinking about a JB in the bridge. Not sure about the middle and neck single coil yet.

Anyone have any recommendations on trems, pickups and tuners?

The Wilkinson will probably be fine. Gotoh is probably my favorite hardware company at the moment for tuners and bridges and such...both of my suhrs have their stuff.

"junk" is code for "he makes enough of a racket as it is. i don't want you enabling him." give him the guitar.

as for the tuning, i'd tighten up and oil the tuners and check the nut. the vibrato probably just needs to be decked.

I like the Wilkinson bridge and the Wilkinson Kluson vintage style tuners. I recently bought a loaded MIM pickguard from ebay for twelve bucks. The bridge and tuners should run you about sixty bucks total and if you make a good score on the other parts, you'll come in way under a hundred bucks. Not bad for a really decent guitar. Maybe do a Crashocaster finish or something similar just to make it feel like a brand new guitar.

Wilky bridge was a touch to tall on the block, but no too much not to use it, but you won't get the plate back on.
Here is one I did with all GFS stuff (exept a custom smoke clear pick guard)...it was fun and my first scallop job as well

Nice!

As for pickups, I've got Duncan Custom Customs in the bridge position of both of my Warmoths, and my orange one has Duncan APSIIs in the middle and neck.

I really like that combo a lot.

Though, my favorite middle and neck singles are the ones in my US Masters LeGrand, though I have no idea what they are.
