Ya know what? I don't think EVERYONE is working for the weekend

I was never clear about whether they meant everybody was working on the weekend, or that everybody was working so that they could enjoy the weekends that they have

I enjoy singing this song in my late grandfather's heavy Slovakian accent while tweaking the lyrics.

"Everybody working on the weekend".
"You want a piece of the heart, you gotta start at the start".

Lately I routinely lose track of what day of the week it is. Not because of memory issues. It's due to retirement. Not a bad problem at all. My phone has that information on the first screen.

Surely not "everyone" does the same thing every time. That's just crazy talk. Let's suggest an over/under on the actual percentage of people who were truely working for the weekend and what percentage didn't give a crap about the weekend maybe because they had to work weekends. Maybe people were on 7 day mandatory overtime. Also back in the day of this song many fewer businesses were open on weekends.

I'm going to to say 64% worked for the weekend.

Everybody's goin' off the deep end
Everybody needs a second chance, oh

I hope not everyone's going off the deep end. That could lead to a big disaster.

As for 2nd chances, just because you want one, doesn't mean you deserve one. Needy screwups begging for 2nd chances are, typically, shit out of luck.

You wanna be in the show
Come on baby let's go

That's a pretty cheesy pickup line. But, I guess it could work if you're a producer on Broadway, or a truly gifted BS artist.

"Everyone's watching, to see what you will do."

Not unless you regularly make a spectacle of yourself.

"Everyone's looking at you, oh."

That's because you did something truly embarrassing.
