Wiring Advice

Hey Everyone:

Its been a while since I asked any questions, but haven't had anything to ask about until now. I'm doing a parts caster build and bought Fender Texas Special pickup for it. It will be my first wiring job on a guitar that wasn't plug in pickups. I was wondering on the neck pickup there are 3 wires, white, black and yellow. According to the diagram the yellow is grounded and the white and black go to the switch. My question is where can I ground the yellow wire to? Can I ground it to a pot or does it need to be grounded to the body of the guitar somehow?

Any help is always greatly appreciated. I'm including pictures of the wiring diagram and the body and neck I'll be using for this build. Kind of excited about this one, but there are many challenges trying to build it and even getting the right parts in a foreign country where you can't ask the vendor because of language issues. I've had to order more parts every time I think I have them all, something is usually wrong. lol

interesting. I'd assume that you could just run the yellow to the top of one of the pots.

I have never wired a tele so I’m am curious, is there a ground to the back of the bridge like to the claw in a strat?

Pickups are ground to the pot. Then you run a wire from the pot to the underside of the bridge. There should be a hole drilled out for it already.

EDIT: that little oval shaped hole by the bridge holes is the hole that runs to the control cavity to run the wire from the bridge to the pot.

Some do, but most Tele bridge pickups have a grounded metal baseplate on the bottom of the pickup that is coupled via the pickup mounting screws to the metal bridge plate, so there is no need for a wire since the bridge is already grounded that way.

Hey guys. Thanks for your advice and input on this. That's what I'm going to do. I'll combine the yellow wire from the neck pickup and the black wire from the bridge pickup and connect them to the volume pot (more than likely) and then run that ground wire from the bridge plate to the pot as well. I really do appreciate all your help on this, and its great to have a place to discuss stuff like this..... So thanks Mark for having this forum.

Update for you guys. I initially wired it using the Fender Texas Special wiring diagram but had nothing from the pickups and spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong. Then I decided to just wire it using the traditional tele wiring and it works fine. I did ground both the black and yellow to a pot. Unfortunately the body needs some modification that I am unable to do myself (neck pocket needs to be routered about 1/8 of an inch deeper), so before I can actually put it back together and play it to hear how it sounds I have to send it in to have that done. It was a great experience and I'll be building another one soon.
Again thanks for all the help and advice during the process.
