Why do they call them "pancake bodies"?

When you think about it, they should really be called "sandwich bodies". :embarrassed:

IMO, the pancake body wasn't/isn't an issue. I've played a number of examples, and cannot detect any notable tonal differences between them and the subsequent 'traditional' LPs. Given the fact that wood is a natural substance, there is going to be sufficient variation within any one piece of wood to essentially negate any advantages over a laminated/pancake body.

I wonder about the difference between the vertical glue strips on traditional multi piece bodies compared to the horizontal layers of glue on a pancake body. Keeps me up at night.
