i've swapped out my schaller strap locks for the dunlaps too.
the dunlaps seem like much less of a hassle to get 'unlocked'.
Wait... you mean the way I did or the other way round? The Dunlops are the little pins with the tiny ball bearings that I'm always sweating are going to just eek their way out and WHAM!!!
The Schallers have a lock pin in the middle, but they also cup the strap button from below, taking the weight in a much more secure way. Then you just pull on the pin and slide the strap away from you.
Much more confidence inspiring than "Push the button and pull the strap out... and stare at the sliver stump about the size of the eraser end of a pencil and wonder when it's going to fail".![]()
oh...no......i went FROM schallers TO dunlop. i've been using dunlops since the late 80's. never had an issue.
the ball bearing rides in a recessed race and you'd have to shear off the ball bearing for it to give way. i don't do the "throw the guitar over your shoulder and back around" thing....so not real worried.![]()

i only have half a set of schallers. don't know what happened to the other clip-on. the stud is still there but i must have changed straps, some years back, and never retrieved the clip-on end.If you've got a pair of Schallers that you've removed, I'll trade you a set of Dunlops.![]()
