When are you are glad that you are old?

When you see the price of this 4x12.

Got an email from CME, did not know Sunn is back.

For that price the cabinet had better be built from hundred year old lumber and hand crafted by Japanese woodworkers who assemble it using ancient joinery techniques that require no nails.

IDK, there's prob several factors on that price, including but not limited to the fact you have probably the highest power rated guitar speaker in production ATM by 50W, it's made in the USA, and the target market prob isn't too large.
You could make yourself an 800W passive speaker from one of the handful of production 200W speakers on the market for far cheaper, I guess, but then you're not gonna be top dog.

On a related note, what the hell is the purpose of a 1000 watt 4x12? The biggest guitar amp used in the doom scene is a Sunn O))) Model T which is only 200 watts. The bass amps are mostly SVTs or weird old Peavey amps which max out at 300 watts. Are these cabinets meant to handle four amps at once? Or are they for people who might want to use a big solid state bass amp but not use one of the many bass amps on the market that cost much less than this?

Bragging rights? What's even weirder is they are making a pre amp but, no power amp. Pre amp says the enclosure is optional and they are rack mountable. I guess if you want to lug a 4x12, you might as well fill a rack too. But why not make a power amp? Is there just such an overabundance of used power amps not being used because PAs have the amps in the speakers now?

In my experience, speaker RMS power ratings are only suggestions.
My Carvin bass amp running at 550w @ 4 ohms keeps frying the drivers in my 2 Hartke 8 ohm 300w cabs (600w @ 4 ohms).

Never mind the price. Who’s going to move the 412 around for me?

“When are you glad that you are old?”

Never. :frown:
No shit. I did two JV girls soccer games today. Total of 160 minutes, less than six miles. Used to be I'd be doing between three and six games on a Saturday, but too many things go "ouch" these days when I go hard. After more than 30 years of doing this I do sort of feel worn out. But no regerts - I have definitely used my body up in fun ways!
