What is the meaning of “it’s been a minute” or any variation on that ?

Help a brotha out…as you may know I’m old and out of touch so when I hear the kidz say “it’s been a minute” or something similar regarding the 60 second measurement of time….wtf are they talkin bout Willis ?

I am asking here because I know many of you here are hipsters and are probably hip to the lingo of the current times.

So this does makes sense as hipsters do like irony. I wonder if this is the kids reaction to living in a world of “instant” where the older folks grew up with the saying “what have you done for me lately” it is now “ what have you done for me 1 second ago” ….snail mail, email , text type thing
 
Urban Dictionary has people using the expression over 20 years ago. I think it just reached the deserts of Tucson later than everyone else.

If someone comes out of the bathroom and they say' 'I'd give it a few minutes', it means they did a big, smelly dump.

That’s because Debo doesn’t actually talk to anyone except dogs and the old man that owns the shop where he works. This will come as a shock to him, but dogs don’t actually talk, and the old dude probably isn’t using any new slang.

Now that he is going to weed stores everyday, he is around people with more frequency and probably heard it there. He wants to make it about hipsters because he is boring and can’t come with anything new.

I would not bet against DdBob speaking fluent canine. Sometimes its just a look, or the raising of an eyebrow.
If the dog speaks slang, DdBob will understand it.
