What does one do if he needs to buy a CD player?

Chicken Man

Kick Henry Jackassowski
I have the 90s classic 5-disc changer stereo component, and it appears to have shat the bed. It only recognizes every tenth disc or so that I put in it. I don't listen to my CDs a lot, but would use a home CD player. I'd rather not replace with the 5-disc changer style--that seems like overkill. I could run a DiscMan type thing (do they still make those?) out of the headphone jack into my receiver, but those are so short-lived. Is there a state-of-the-art average Joe CD player that I can hook into my stereo? My purposes would be to expose my kid to classic albums, and to play the CDs that come with music instruction books from the library.

CD players are like $39 at WalMart.
DVD players will also play CDs.
Pretty much ANYTHING will play CDs......

As long as you're not looking for an audiophile unit (yeah, they still make them...), you can get one damn near anywhere for dirt cheap.

I'm not looking for an audiophile unit, but I'd also not like to get something that I'll just have to throw away in 2-3 years because it's so cheap. I'd also love to get something that's a little more low-profile than the two-phone-books-stacked-on-top-of-eachother unit that I've got now.

We don't have a TV of any kind, and if we get one it won't be anywhere near our living space, so a secondary-use CD player isn't really much help.

I bought a 5 disc DVD changer on Ebay for like $55 shipped.

Lasted me about 2 years......Then I put the $39 WalMart DVD special into it's place.......

I can't kill the thing. All I really use it for is CD play. Occasionally a DVD.......

Not the best unit I have ever seen, but the capabilities of the unit are not limited sonically, only just the shit it will/won't do via remote. Stupid stuff.

I wish the thing would die so I could buy a new unit, but it works fine.

Just saying. I could plug a brand new $600 CD unit into the receiver and honestly not be able to tell the difference, and I have a nice little stereo system going.
