Question: What do you do with old guitar straps?

Honkridge

UNACCEPTABLE!
I found about 12 of them in a bag in the closet. Some of them are really nice but I can't possibly use them. Seems a shame to throw them away.

i don't have to worry about having too many. they seem to disappear on their own. i've got 3 straps right now and 5 guitars

I cut my old leather straps and sew them into new guitar straps. Be sure to cut out spots in the shapes of eyes, mouths, and nostrils.

one of my straps I've had for 30 years. Another one came on a guitar I bought, and the previous owner probably owned that for 20 years. I have one fancy hand-tooled strap that I never use because it's still stiff and heavy. Owned that for about 15 years. I guess I don't get rid of old straps because I never buy new ones.

I own a strap that my mom bought in 1971. It’s a hippy embroidered thing.

I had one of those for years, and finally tossed it. About a year later a friend gave me a 1972 Yamaha acoustic, and in the little compartment was a nearly identical embroidered 3" wide hippy strap.

I've never purposely gotten rid of a guitar strap such as throwing it away, but I've had quite a few disappear over the years. These days, virtually ALL of my guitars have their own leather strap and unique strap locks in terms of hardware color or manufacturer, and the straps generally stay attached to the guitars unless they're in a case. In that event, the strap is neatly in the case as well.
