I see other modifications that can be done but it does spark an interesting idea! Check the video out in the kickstarter link.

I notice that it doesn't indicate how much it's going to cost. This is a product that I think will require a reasonable price-point to have any chance of success.

Maybe with some modifications, as suggested in the OP. That bare wood would get uncomfortable for my booty pretty quickly.

I never sit when I play so no usage on my end, but it is a clever idea.
This, plus it looks like it may have you sitting low. Not to mention that it is one more thing to have to lug for gigs. I can see how some might find it useful, though.

If it was a bit taller I'd love it. As is I think it's pretty cool, but for $150 I can buy a really nice and thickly padded drum throne and a sturdy stand, with enough left over for gas to get TO the gig.

That’s what I thought at first. Then I remembered all the NYC buskers who lug 1x12s and even 2x12s up and down the subway steps. Hell, I’ve even seen a bass player busking with a 2x15.

I have too much to bring for most gigs as it is; this doesn't have the utility for me to make it worthwhile.

In terms of packing for a gig, it doesn't fold down, so it eats space. It might be nice for an informal outdoor thing, but I think it's not tall enough for a standard coffee house type gig.

Neat idea but not practical for most situations to my mind and sorry to say I don't think it's going to take off.
  • Not appropriate for most gigs as it doesn't fold up. Unless you're only shifting an acoustic and the stand, it takes up a lot of room in the car which I've already got electric guitars, amps, PA, etc in.
  • Most gigs I'm standing so the stool seat isn't going to work. If I am going to sit on a stool, then unless it's on a well raised stage, I'm going to want a tall one to stay visible to the audience.
  • Not exactly small. His house where he's demonstrating it has nice big rooms. Houses with those size rooms are in a serious minority here in the UK. My wife would throw a fit if I tried putting something that big in our living room, I'd have much more joy with a folding stand due to the smaller footprint.
  • Suspect the price point is going to put people off judging by what you have to donate to get a stand for your trouble.
The two places I can see it working are:
  1. An acoustic guitar teacher's room. Gives the teacher a stand and stool in a room dedicated for the use. Arguable whether a comfy stool and a quality folding stand provide better value though.
  2. A recording studio where it forms part of the furniture. Again the perceived value vs a separate stool and stand is questionable.
If he was knocking it out as an MDF flat pack build it yourself for £10 to £15 I could see more people being interested but the nicely finished articles he's proposing are not going to be cheap and a lot of people will find more value in a separate stool and stand.

I just liked the idea when I first saw it. I wouldn't want one because it is missing many of the things forumites said that it was lacking.

For me, what I liked was that it was a guitar stand and stool. I use both when I play acoustic gigs. What I would prefer would be to see a bar stool type that when flipped over is capable of holding the guitar. At the end of the night, it either disassembles and/or folds up for storage.

I think this is one of those Dragon's Den problems that don't actually need solving things.

It looks nice but:

For a gigging musician a folding stand and chair is much more practical
For someone who doesn't gig, a folding stand is much more economical

It's not really got a target market and considering you can get a stand and folding chair for under £15, I really don't see how anyone except a real style conscious bedroom guitarist (who could build one themselves anyway) would find it useful.
