White on white guitars/white guards makes sense. High contrast can work depending on the entire look.

My American Strat Plus has lace sensor golds in there neck and middle and a blue in the bridge. I never really noticed that they look all that different than normal strat pickups. Luckily, there is no shortage of great sounding pickups out there, so avoiding this is pretty easy if it bugs you.
