This sucks.

Things are tough for everyone but I'd think most of us could do something small...

Yup, then you read something like this, and get really pissed off...

SAN DIEGO -- A San Ysidro woman who continually asked for donated toys and other goods to give away to needy foster children stole more than $200,000 worth of items and even sold some for profit, a prosecutor alleged Friday.

"This case is about greed," Deputy District Attorney Chris Ryan told jurors in her opening statement in the trial of Virginia Kelly...

We have a Giving Tree set up in the lobby of LMA and last year every single tag was gone. This year there were about 20 left.

I felt really bad, because all of the little kids had their tags taken but mostly adults and teenagers were left behind. For adults they were asking for things like jeans and sweatshirts, so I hit up Old Navy and got some of their $15 jeans, just so adults could have something for Christmas too.

IIRC our gift was for a small child, but I don't think I saw any for adults...

Yours was at a school, so that's their focus. Since we have a wide reach in the community with different types of families and clients ours has a bigger blend. A lot of other trees do just children around here. I understand that people want to see kids come first on Christmas morning, but I just feel so horrible that there will be parents who can barely provide for their children and think they need a bit of Christmas grace themselves.

We had a 'giving day' in Denver sponsored by a local bank who kick started the program by giving a $250,000 donation. The idea was to raise one million dollars for local charities in one day. They raised almost eight million. So at least some people are still giving...

That lady who stole the donated toys need to be drawn and quartered.....

I actually agree with you there.

That does suck. My kids (who are 5 1/2 and 7) have decided that this year, they want half of their presents to go to charity. I am hoping that their generosity continues through life.
