That blue and white swirl is AWESOME!!! you should sand the whole guitar that way and ROCK that bitch!!!!!

Ok, I'm over my hissy fit. Time to get back to work.
The yellow paint peeled right off the same as the white. I am assuming that the shellac wasn't sufficiently dewaxed and that caused the problem.
I decided to remove the shellac and start fresh.
As many times as I've used shellac, I can't say I've ever sanded a finish completely off. This stuff is much harder than people give it credit for. Folks also complain about alcohol damage but even that isn't easy. Using pure denatured alcohol as a stripper is tedious. A thorough soaking will turn the top coat into jelly for about 45 seconds, by which time the alcohol has evaporated and the shellac is hard again.

Anyway, the back.

And the front gives a hint at the finish I've chosen this time...doghair.

Glad to hear you're back on track with it. What if you just made the whole thing look like the back and call it a day?

Nice.

My re-re-restart is on hold for a few more days.

I'm aiming to go back to this.

I took off the shellac but getting 100% of the white out of every pore ain't gonna happen. The doghair takes advantage of the white in the grain.

SPECTACULAR!!!!! Play it as is, or throw clear on it if you're worried about the grain. That looks amazing.
