I started my summer of Fridays off last week.
Last week was a friend's wedding.
This week. I'm trying to do as little as possible.
I had an early start to the day yesterday - 4:30 AM - and had to present to a room full of people.
Now, talking for an hour doesn't seem like it would be very physically strenuous, but I'm finding that it is.
My voice started going out while just chatting with folks before I presented.
The mic and PA weren't doing me any favors. So, I was really working to project my voice to the back of the room.
I tend to wing it during these presentations because parroting the canned message bores me to tears and I really can't do it. Presenters before me touched on some of the same topics. So, I had to relate back to what they said and adjust my spiel on the fly. All while watching about 50 people stare at me and while trying to connect with everyone (and "popping" my voice when I see that one guy start to dose off
) I was thinking on my feet while trying to sound like I knew what I was talking about.
It seems silly as I type this, but I'm still zonked.
I actually had to stop on the way home yesterday and walk around and get some food to keep from falling asleep at the wheel.
Today, I still feel like someone kicked the crap out of me, and I slept in until 10.
I could probably do with some breathing lessons from a vocal teacher.
I might go for a cruise later on, but only if I can get a nap.
