I thought these cocksuckers only lived 1 day but to my horror Googles tells me they live 28 days  I have what seems to be three or 4 in the house exclusively staying in the kitchen by the sink. Problem is I don't have a fly swatter anymore because years ago I used my awesome Enoz

to kill a roach and it got roach guts on it so I threw it away...totally need to get a new one as those Enoz ones are pure killing machines....so.....anyway I've taken to using an REI memorial day sale catalog to kill them but it's a slow process and very challenging although I'm quite proficient at it now and I can generally bat aboyt .600 The key is to go all in , no slow or indecissive movements and when I connect trhere is almost always blood left behind so it's not as clean as a flyswatter.
the other thing is these bastards seem to multiply or they have reserves waiting because everytime I get down to 1 or 2 left and I think I can see light at the end of the flytunnel they bring in two new recruits

so short of breaking down and buying a bug zapper or a new flyswatter what can I do to eradicate these assholes. FWIW I'm clean, sink has no dishes etc in it but these flys won't give up

Do the ones in your kitchen really look like that? Because that's a bottle fly, usually found around dead animals or on wounds. There's probably some dead critter or an infested animal near your house.

We had a fruit fly hanging around in our kitchen for two weeks. I was actually kind of sad when I found him dead in the sink.

I catch them. Move slowly place your hand close to them, they notice and quit moving, getting ready to fly off, wait until they start fidgeting around (distracted) and then concentrate your energy into sweeping your hand as fast as possible.

8 times out of ten I snag one. I then let them out of the screen door.

I have heard that if you leave a little cup of apple cider vinegar on the counter the flies will drown themselves in it just like the woman in that Cure song.
I read that too...said to add a bit of dish soap and cover it loosely or poke holes in the plastic wrap which i did but they want no part of it.

right before I got on here I just killed one with my bare hands....slapped it to it's death on the sink counter
