Help! The Atomic Tele

reverend1

Kick Henry Jackassowski
I bought a beat up Squier Classic Vibe at Atomic Music. It had such heavy paint, it felt like a bowling ball finish. I figured I save the body and attempt a relic.

We sanded most of the paint off until I could see the grain through it. Best it up just a little bit more. I friend did the metal parts for me. We didn’t touch the brass saddles. They already looked pretty good.

I have a Duncan ‘54 bridge pickup coming for it. I’m think I’m going to put a filtertron if some sort in the neck. I need to order or make a pickgaurd. I’m going to order a Mexican Fender replacement neck for it.

I would have fun doing something like this. I should have kept the Butterscotch Affinity Tele I gave to my nephew (which he never plays) and modified it. Maybe I'll go steal it from him.

I was hoping you weren’t bailing on it. It’s a nice enough guitar and played well. Did you use muriatic acid on the metal parts?

How is the neck pickup routed? It may be cool to just ditch the guard all together since it's relic'd. Unless you have to route pickup space.

Don't ever steal a guitar from your nephew. 35 years later they'll go full OGG on you.
That wasn't just a guitar, and I didn't even come close to going full OGG. I actually let him off very easy all things considered.

Anyway, I like the Tele! Looking good!

The Black Strat of Chimey Doom started life as a $129 Squier Affinity "Black and Chrome" Fat Strat with a mirrored pickguard. It's now a force to be reckoned with that I'd stack up against all comers. The relic job looks fantastic and the long list of upgrades made it a total beast.

I have to have a pickguard. I’d like to keep to original. It’s nicely beat up as it is but I’m not sure if it will work.

Did The Black Strat of Chimey Doom have a two-point trem from the factory? If so, I think that's actually a Squier Standard. The Affinities have always had six-screw trems and a thinner body.

It did. It was definitely an "Affinity" as it read as much on the headstock. It was also a "Limited Edition" model. If it had been a 6 screw, I'd never have even considered it.
The factory two-point was actually pretty decent too. I had to fill and then re-drill the lower post hole just a smidge to accommodate the Wilkinson. At some point, I'm going to do it again though because despite following the directions exactly, the lower post is a tiny bit too high.

EDIT: Shit! Never mind. My memory sucks. It's a "Standard"
