Interested in Warmoth, but kinda expensive. Would like decent alder. I plan on making a tele based on the '63 that Vedder uses, with a Fralin P90 in the neck and a Fralin in the bridge. I will use something cheaper. Maybe along the lines of the pickups @Peen Simmons is getting recs for in his thread. There was a cheap GFS that @Lerxst talked about I could use in the bridge. And maybe something to kinda match in a P90 in the neck. Or something like that.

But gotta start with a body. Then will find a suitable used neck or something.

@Chad @PunkKitty this sort of thing is usually up your alley.
 
Ok, I looked at Warmoth again, and if I leave off finishes, which I kinda want to do myself anyway, a suitable body and neck are not too expensive. then I will just need hardware, pickups, and electronics. Allparts and Stewmac seem to be the go to places for those things, right?
 
I know there are other places, probably fine but, I trust Warmouth. Their shit just fits perfect.

You can buy some stuff from Musican's Friend. Got a steal on Fender tuners from a sale Punk Kitty told me about. Speaking of tuners, know which ones you are getting before you order your neck.

Also, check Reverb.
 
considering taking apart my modded CV and putting it back to stock and either selling it or saving it for a gift for someone, and using the electronics I put in it when I modded it to the BG Rockwind A3 bridge and compatible BG P90 in the neck. I always liked how that guitar sounded. But wanted at least an arm contour, and that CV alder tele body weighs a ton. And I am just not a binding guy on a tele.

Yeah, I have to decide on tuners. Warmoth sells those too. Locking Schallers look good, though I have never had locking, or the in line Gotoh they sell. And If I just do the finish myself, which I am fine with, both on neck and body, it is not bad to go with them. And since I am from the 253 area code home of origin anyway, I like the idea of ordering from them.
 
I love locking, I can't screw it up, quick, don't need a winder. Also like a high ratio 18:1. It's just easier for me to not overshoot tuned, then detune, then tune back up.

Edit- Forgot the best part, don't need to wait till next time son visits to put new strings on. :grin:
 
I usually get Tele bodies from Eden Guitars. Prices are reasonable. Colors are accurate. Specs are correct. I usually buy alder bodies. For necks, I bought several from Howell Guitars on Reverb that are really nice. But I prefer WD, Allparts, or Warmoth. I avoid Mighty Mite. I've had too many fret problems with them recently. For tuners, I always use Hipshot. There is a Hipshot outlet store on Ebay.

Any particular hipshot tuners you like for teles?
 
I think these are the Fender tuners I got. I both love and hate them. They are great if your headstock already has two tiny holes for the pins to stick into. Most tuners have a tiny hole to put a tiny screw in to stop the tuner from rotating, mine have pins like in one of the photos. It says they are staggered. Mine, the posts on the high E, B and G are shorter than the D, A and low E. High E, B and G are all the same height, D, A and low E are all the same height. I have a set of Schallers on my Peavey Predator. Those, High E is the shortest, B is a tiny bit higher, G is a tiny bit higher than B...

It is my opinion, that you don't need a string tree with either staggered tuner that I have, others smarter than me may think otherwise.

It was a while ago,prices were so much better then. The sale was 50% off fender accessories, minimum $100. I had to buy two sets of tuners and two sets of strap locks to get over $100, which then went to a little over $50 with the sale.

 
Yeah, ok, this is motivating me to end up with two Teles, one based on the BG Rock Wind and P90 currently in my old CV, and that will be in this new guitar, and the CV Tele will go back to a more traditional tele with traditional tele pickups, but less ice picky versions than the ones that came in the CV. And it will get its Mint PG back and I will use the Warmoth black one currently on it on the new guitar.
 
And a TV yellow Epi LP Special I never bonded with will get sold. As new, from a Reverb seller a couple years ago. It just didn’t do it for me. I have a double cut cheap Firefly LP Special type with some parts to mod it that I will keep.

I've used some other bodies in the past, but nothing has been better than Warmoth for me. I won't even look elsewhere.
 
OK!! Well, I have a tele project going. I purchased from @Peen Simmons this bridge pickup.

I am going to order one, or maybe even two bodies from Warmoth. One neck also. What I will end up with is one tele that has my Bryan Gunsher wound P-90 and A3 Rockwind in it, and one that is a bit more traditional, but with Peen's bridge pup, and a yet to be fully determined neck pickup in it. The BG pickups and the Santellan wiring kit I used in that guitar will move to the new body and neck, which will have at least an arm contour. Possibly also belly. The new pups will be either in my old CVC body, but that is a bit heavy, or I will get another lighter body and sell the CVC, keeping the neck. I can't arm contour the bound CVC body either, and I kinda like that. So yeah, I am a big werido who has to screw with things, but those are my thoughts right now.

Here is my current tele. I still have the original mint PG and if I use it, or if I get a new body, I will probably use that PG. Part of me wants to keep the body and neck as this guitar does have some sentimental value.

I also will likely order a wiring kit from Lollar out of Tacoma as I want the whole project to have some 253 (area code where Tacoma and Puyallup are) vibe to it.

Baimun bought a 2HB tele body from these folks...their prices seem reasonable. Unfinished though. He got his on Reverb and there's someone that's selling their bodies with relic-ed finishes.
