Question: Springs or Foam for mounting a P90 in the neck of my CVC Tele

Pickup height? Was Springs or Foam for mounting a P90 in the neck of my CVC Tele

Got my new pickups in to install in my CVC. I am putting a P90 in the neck. The pickups did not come with springs or foam. What do you guys use? Any other installation tips are welcome. i found a set of vids from Mr. Lollar regarding an epiphone SG install, where he uses springs, but I had got in my head that foam was the way to go.

i suppose I could just re-use the foam that is under the stock neck pickup too. Think that would work?

Thanks in advance for any tips for a newbie modder.

I just used a little bit of foam under the pickup on the Squier I modded. Was not perfect, but I didn't spend much time on it, either. :embarrassed:

Ok, follow up. The project is coming along and dry fitted, and the extra wood in the control cavity in the way of the new control unit has been removed, area cleaned up and re-painted. So now, what is a good starting height for the pickups to adjust from? Neck P90 and Bridge tele?

Ok, sounds good. I'll start there, if I can find a nickel. I am going to get another piece of foam and maybe some springs. I am not happy with how the P90 is setting on the screws in the hole. The top (neck) side is higher than the bridge side. I have re-set the foam once to try and even it out but it did not work. I think a wider piece will be better than the piece designed to be under the stock tele neck pup.

Otherwise, seems to be going fairly well. I did not have to take too much of that extra little wood block in the control cavity out and painted it back up so you would never know.

I am going to have to order some new knobs and hat for the switch though. The stock CVC ones don't fit this Santellan Sounds control kit I got that uses american standard size parts. Oh, and a little extra foil tape.

EDIT: Oh yeah, mouse pad. I might still have one around I can cut up.

ready to connect up.

Yeah, foam. I forgot to take a pic of that part, but when I get back into it to replace the foam, and/or springs, I will shoot a couple and post.

Foam was what was under the stock pick up. And apparently people use foam quite often to provide tension on the adjustment screws for neck pick ups in telecasters. Or so the Internet would seem to indicate. Who knew? I didn't before I started this.
