Spin Off Nerdy how to do (virtual) drums thread

Spun off @Peen Simmons Nerdy Drum thread as I have no drummer and don’t know any really. I would like to have an option to use for practice and recording. My gear that could possibly work that I already own is a Digitech Trio+, my iPad or MacBook Pro with both Logic and GarageBand (or the iOS port thereof) in them, along with a Focusrite, (not sure why I would need that) and in one location, a Boss Katana, and in the other location, access to two amps if I wanted to plug something into that amp to make it make noise. I guess I could also run out of the computer or iPad into a stereo if I needed to, in either place. Would love not to HAVE to use headphones all the time, but have that option when needed.

I want to be able to load songs in, as well as create. And I just don’t know how to do this. But it seems like I should be able to with the gear I have.

Seems to me that if you just wanna practice/mess around you could run the trio or your computer/iPad into a practice amp. If I were creating backing tracks to perform to I’d record/export/edit/mixdown the structured parts to a file and just launch them from a laptop hooked up to sound.

I’m a troglodyte when it comes to drum parts and mostly program things the old fashioned way (I learned drum machines on ye olde Alesis SR16) and tend to default to that sort of thought process even when using virtual stuff and fancier software.

Yeah, I am just lazy and hate to try and program drum stuff, and don’t really know how. I will try and learn sometime. I do have a practice amp I can use, or as said, I could just also run out of the computer to a nearby stereo too.

Thanks, @jrockbridge , I will check that out too.

If you're going to go the computer route, you could always use something like EZdrummer. It's got a ton of grooves that you can just paste together to make a drum track (or just use one and loop it). You can even use it as a standalone app without having to run it inside a DAW.
