Son & I Got Season Ski Passes

Stealing Your Riffs
We got the Epic Local for $778 before the prices go up on Nov 17th.

For the last few years, we had season passes to Loveland, the closest and cheapest resort. But, we finally returned to the multi-mountain pass that we were doing when he was much younger. We will mostly ski Keystone, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek. We probably won't ski a single resort out of state.

Back when passes where the wire holder that went through your jacket zipper and stickers, a my buds and I would hang in the parking lot and offer people leaving $10 for their pass. Clip it with a pair of dykes right at the top of the pass sticker and put in our your jacket. Good to go for the rest of the day.

I went to NAU, Flagstaff, AZ, during the mid to late 80's. I learned to ski at Snowbowl resort. I took a ski class one semester which was a great foundation.

Clipping lift tickets was common in the Snowbowl parking lot. Plenty of people would let you do it for free.

We ask at first, "hey, I see you're leaving for the day...do you need your lift ticket?" and you could get them sometimes for free. But the number of lift tickets you could accumulate on your jacket each season was like a badge of honor and a tenner would usually be enough to get one as you got tired of asking.

I used to Ski quite a bit in high school and right up to when I got married.

The combination of knee injuries and my increased intolerance to cold over the years led me to selling off all of my gear and giving up skiing.

The last big ski trip I had was Traverse City probably 20 years ago... had one good night of skiing, fell and aggravated sore knees the second day... we spent the rest of the weekend just drinking and sitting next to the fire at the lodge. :helper:

Nice, sounds like a great way to spend some quality time with you son. :thu:

I used to enjoy skiing when I lived in CA, even though I was never very good at it. I tried a few times after moving to the mid-Atlantic, and it just didn't compare. I'm too old and out of shape for it now. I was going to try a few years ago. I could still fit in my boots, but when I snapped them into the bindings, the spring shot out of the back of one of them. I guess the plastic had gotten brittle by years of nonuse in the basement. That was it.

A group of the Dads I got to know in Boy Scouts, and their sons, all have that same Epic Local Pass. I'm hoping we are able to plan a few group trips.

My son and I have skied together since he was a young boy. I used to ski quite a bit with some of the Dads and their sons during the Boy Scout years. After Scouts, we drifted apart. Then, one of Dad in our small circle passed away. We Dads have been getting together a few times a year ever since.

My Dad and I got season passes to our local resort (Bear Valley, CA) every year until I graduated from high school. Good times!

My Dad didn't ski but when I was too young to drive, he would drive me to the mountain, hang out in the lodge & read a book while I skied. That was pretty damn awesome of him.

I wouldn’t go somewhere like that unless I could afford to have a private plane fly me in like rich people do at Aspen and Telluride.

The thing that sucks is that the two routes to Hood are the two primary routes to get to the Bend area from the Portland metro so during ski season you have to avoid that area at all costs when the slopes open and close. Getting caught in the end of night jam will add a couple hours to your drive easy.
