Achtung! So I got by butt plumbed today.

You know, that thing you do after you turn 50. Everything came out fine (harhar). The prep day was not as uncomfortable as i thought it might be. Fasting in the morning followed by magnesium citrate and dulcolax in the after noon. And my mind wanted to mess with me a bit, but I fought that down as best I could with focusing on my pedal board build, and by getting some practice in.

The procedure itself was a non-event. They get you set up in the gown, give you the juice to start the nap, and before you know it it is over. No worries really.

I post this really as an effort to get folks who are turning 50 when all should go get one done, or are a little younger (so most of us), that have risk factors, to just go make an appointment and do it. It is not an easy thing to think about and commit to doing, but well worth it. And once you make the decision and get going, it is really not that big a deal. Certainly better than draggin one's feet and missing an opportunity to catch a polyp or two before it turns into something, etc.

So, I am treating myself to a fine beer tonight and relaxing with my guitar and family!

Cheers all!

And seriously, if you are in the relevant age group or have family risk factors, go get it done. Really is not a big deal and can potentially save some bigger problems later on!

When I went, the last thing I remember was seeing a maglite taped to a 25' garden hose. On the other end of the hose was a steering wheel from a corvair.

As long as the doctor isn't wearing a pirate hat and an eye patch, I'm game.
Butt not yet. I'm still a little invincible.

Actually it was no problem at all like svl said. Definitely have it done if it's time.

Ya, I just turned 50 on 10/19. But knowing me, if I let myself think about it too much, it would be easy to wait for the "right time" or let my head work on me in some weird way. Better just to pick up the phone and make the appointment. No thinking about it. Just do it.

The worst part is the prep, and like you said, it's nothing really. Missing a couple meals isn't bad and the cleanout makes you feel great.
But the very best part is the buzz from the propofol, however short-lived, and the quick recovery. You lay down, get a buzz and wake up getting dressed ten seconds later.

I lost my mom to colon cancer so I started getting the flashlight/garden hose treatment early. Watching that happen to my mom was the most devastated and helpless I have ever felt. Generally speaking, early detection makes colon cancer completely avoidable. There are exceptions but most of us can avoid ever having it by being tested when we should. Thanks for bringing it up.
