So how do combine one of Eddie Van Halen's guitars with a Landshark Surfboard?

I had been bouncing around all these different ideas for a custom guitar that I could play with my Island/Reggae band, The Sandbar Bums. We've done events for Landshark and Leinenkugel which got me thinking about some of their marketing.

I have always thought the Landshark surfboard was cool...

For my requirements for our reggae band I wanted a maple board, Piezo acoustic saddles, and then some combination of humbucker in the bridge with jangly single in the neck for reggae rhythms.... but just sticking a Landshark logo on a strat or tele seemed kind of boring.

So after doodling in a sketchbook, the idea of the Van Halen / Charvel Star guitar popped into my 80's ravaged brain.

These all seemed like different ideas that have no business combining.....

.... but I figured what the hell.

With a maple/maple neck, swamp ash body, single in the neck and tele-style ashtray bridge, it should have some tele-like sound and feel. I haven't done the electronics yet but they simply be a push/pull magnetic volume where the hole already is for the humbucker. When that knob is pulled up it will split the bucker and add the neck. Those are the two sounds I use the most.

There will be a second volume knob and second output for piezo acoustic saddles. A completely separate audio path so I don't have to worry about the magnetics if my battery dies or something.

Also, the farthest end of the star will have a metal beer bottle opener on it.

Go ahead... scoff at the madman. :helper:

In honorary Eddie fashion, the paint was done with rattle cans and tape.

I did it like our surfboard sign... Painted it then sanded it back with ultra fine sandpaper so the swamp ash grain shows.
I did the logos in Photoshop and had them printed as clear stickers like a beer bottle.
The "surf stripes" were taped off and rattle canned.

The Devil will find work for idle hands to do.

Story checks out.

Yeah, I've been pretty bored this week... Typical 40 something hour work week... Then a 3 hour gig Thurs night for Bike Night with a radio remote... Then 4 hour gig at a grand opening of an Irish pub... And a three hour show at a big venue that used to be a theatre. I'm happy my voice held up for all those hours three nights in a row.

Make the beer opener shaped like teeth for extra fashion points.

It's a flat metal one like what the bartenders have in a wristband. I'm bolting it to the underside of that tail fin with a washer to keep it out far enough for the bottle top to grip. I don't want any sharp edges that will catch on me while I'm playing.
