Had Nando's Chicken the last time I was in Chicago.

If that is what you guys think spicy chicken is supposed to be.... Sweet sleestak baby jeebuz, I feel sorry for you guys.

I mean, the chicken was okay... better than the stuff you get at a gas station, but I wouldn't say it was particularly tender or tasty.... but the sauces? I've given spicier stuff to my grandkids to dip their McDonalds nuggets in. That's just sad. :helper:

And it was waaaaaaaay over priced... even for Chicago.

I've got some places that you can try that make REAL spicy chicken.... particularly Nashville Hot Chicken. This one in particular in the harbor town of Saugatuck Michigan called "The Southerner". The "habanero hot" does not fuck around. I love me some super spicy food.... and I struggled to finish this one and was tearing up and snotty by the time I was done.

@baimun - knowing you're a masochistic freak for heat that would give a space rocket on launch a run for its money, I'm not surprised it's not hot enough for you. :baimun::panic:

I like some warmth in my food that gives a glow in my mouth but not to the level of sweating, burning, and feeling I'm going to have a cardiac arrest. Here in the UK, Nandos' medium level works for me, while my wife likes hot. I can happily eat the hot but just prefer the medium level. I would be very surprised if the recipes aren't tailored per country, possibly even regionally as most multi-nationals do, so how that relates to the Chicago versions I cannot tell you.

As to being tender and tasty, generally yes, they are, but like any high turnover restaurant, there'll be times it isn't as good.

It’s been a while since I’ve eaten Nando’s chicken since I no longer eat beasts. But I work across the street from a mall where there is one and had it often enough for lunch. I don’t believe peri peri/piri piri sauce on chicken is supposed to be like yr favorite Devil’s Vengence Toilet Wrecker Ass Terminator Weasel Monkey Donkey WMD Sauce.

And yeah, it’s for an international market which includes people (like my parents) who think ketchup is spicy. And yes, my ma got her adventurous eating habits w/r/t spice from her British mother. So I wouldn’t look for a place with a huge UK footprint to be seriously hot.

I remember it as tasty enough for a chain restaurant that you can find at the mall.

My workplace has discovered it as a place to cater in take out and I was initially psyched cause I searched their menu and it looked like they had a fake chicken sandwich—so an option. But turns out that’s a UK offering and in the States I get nothing and like it. (Their sides are pretty small and limited w/r/t plant based options so it’s always a weird sadness meal of multiple tiny containers come team meetings.)

Found out there's one in the neighborhood where we will be staying in June in London/Old Street.

I guess I'll have to FAFO (hopefully in a positive sense).

I've been meaning to eat some habanero hot chicken. And not White Guy Hot.
They have mango habanero chicken for a limited time at El Pollo Loco. I haven't tried it yet. I'm sure it's mild.

I've never cared for it, and I'm a pretty big fan of marinated chicken in general. My South African wife and in-laws have great memories of it back in the old country, but none of our visits to the US locations have been worthwhile.

I make my spicy chicken at home. I go so hard that I have to stand back for a minute after I open the oven and hold my breath while I take the chicken out so I don’t get a blast of the fumes in my eyes or inhale it. But nobody else in the house touches my food this way.

It's distinctly meh.

I've only ever been twice, first time I was absolutely hanging after a night out in Bahrain. This annoying south African girl I worked with made a big deal about how we just had to go to nandos because it was great. Terrible service, no hair of the dogs on offer and tasteless dried out chicken didn't help my hangover.

Tried it once over here at Mrs JBJs behest in a mall and it wasn't as terrible but definitely not worth the £££ or the hype
