Sleep Walking

As a child I was known to sleep walk..My Mom would wake to find me peeing in the bottom drawer of my clothes dresser or putting milk and Fruit Loops in the toilet...Two examples..

As of late I've been up to it again.....In the past year I've got up in the morning and the kettle was on the stove burning-I have no idea how long it was on there and one of my oven mitts that I keep in the drawer was in the bathroom sink

A few weeks later I wake up to go to work and the top of the toilet tank is on the bathroom floor behind the toilet and I have a bruise on my right hip..and my bedroom closet is wide open...I keep shit tight because of the cats..

Best one yet...I live in a condo......I woke up and I was outside my door trying to get in...I was outside in my underwear and had no key...I had to wake up the manager that has a master key to let me back in..

I must admit it's freaking me a little because I can't remember any of it and then I snap out of it and wake up

I'm now putting things like chairs in my way to try and get me awake or distract me some how...

Anybody else here have any experience with sleep walking?

I must admit that I'm a little worried because I live on the 4th floor and I can't for the life of me remember any of it even after I wake up and am either in a position where I must wake up or wake up naturally in the morning and wonder WTF went on..

I'll leave it at that...Thanks.........

Are you taking any sleep meds? Of course I can't remember the name of the drug but it has side effects like you're describing.
It could be a side effect from any meds you may be taking for that matter.

I'm not on any meds...

And I didn't sleep walk last night because there's always obvious indications that I've been up and about..

I'm wondering if it's stress related....

In all seriousness...you should probably see a Dr. About this.
I personally don't have any experience in this area, others here may. But only a Dr. will have a more extensive knowledge on the subject. And more importantly he will most likely be able to direct you towards figuring this out and fixing it.

That would explain a lot of your posts.

Seriously though, see a doctor and soon. Putting an oven mitt in the sink is funny; accidentally burning your building down or falling out a window to your death wouldn't be.

I don't think I have done it but my younger brother did when we were kids. It was pretty funny.

I hear ya...The same day I threw the kettle out and replaced it with an electric with auto shut off...

Doc appt has been made...I've been up to some scary shit.....

Is there any correlation between your sleep walking and the phases of the moon?

My youngest son has had some episodes of sleepwalking. I remember one night when he was about 7 he had been asleep for a couple of hours when he came downstairs, walked right past us and out the front door. During high school there were a number of times he got up in the middle of the night and woke up in the shower. He'd go back to bed then when I woke him up and told him to get in the shower he would inform me he already did. Wet towel on the rack confirmed it. It hasn't done it much lately, but we did put chains on the doors when he first started doing it as a kid so he wouldn't be able to leave the house.

I woke up fully dressed once but that's about it that imaware of.

I used to get sleep paralysis pretty often when I lived in KSA and it freaks me out even when I'd sussed out what it was.

Hope the doc can shed some light for you.

Sleep paralysis is something I've experienced quite a few times too, though not for years..

The thing about that is your mind is awake while your body is still asleep and you can't move as hard as you try to move but you can remember that...

Sleep walking is a whole other creature where you're up and about, performing tasks, and either wake up mid stream because something forces you to,(like standing outside a locked door and not being able to get back in when you could perform the tasks of getting out)..

Or, waking in the morning and seeing stuff moved around that had to have been done in the middle of the night and you have no recollection doing it.....

Check out Mike Birbiglia's Sleepwalk With Me. He narrowly dodged killing himself by jumping through a second storey window at a hotel. It's a pretty funny standup routine but also terrifying. He had to take meds and sleep in a "secure" sleeping bag with mitts on his hands to keep him from unzipping himself.

That was funny...Pretty sure it's not something that would be done during sleep walking. It's mostly mundane, every day things that you don't have to think twice about..

Wait now!!!!!!!!!!

Alcohol, weed, stress and a feeling of unfinished business (i.e. passing out when you feel you still need to be working, i.e. not enough hours in the day), were triggers for me. Funny, but in your one post I can relate. Walked out to the garden at my last house stark naked middle of the night lording over my garden (according to my wife). She met me at the back door, and her voice snapped me out of it. Pretty embarrassing. No recollection. She said I was walking like I was awake (she thought I was).

I've had 2-3 sleep paralysis episodes which freaked me out bad, but none in about 15 years or so.

Yeah, see a doctor.
