Achtung! Singers that don’t play an instrument

Kick Henry Jackassowski
if you are attending a BLUES jam, please call a blues. Motown, R&B, and whatever else is virtually impossible for five random people to play if they don’t know the song.

Also the other musicians are not your backing track. Remember to give them some solos.

Finally, singing a song at me is probably not going to be a sufficient way for me to determine what key a song is in.

Thank you for you attention to this matter.

Kindly,

The other musicians

I’m telling man. I played four songs last Night. They were all stuff no one knew. Baby Baby-Smokey Robinson and shit like that. We had two guitars, keys, a sax, and harmonica and she never broke for any of us to solo. It really sucked, just go to a karaoke bar.
Sadly, there's one word you just used in that post that cleared it all up for me as to why it happened. "She"
In my experience that's the case. It's about getting noticed and not understanding that it's not a live band karaoke night.

If you're a singer working with hired musicians it's YOUR JOB to let them know what key you sing the song in. If you don't know what key you sing the songs in, then you're a Karaoke singer. :helper:

Does someone 'run' the jam, or is it a free for all? Sounds like the typical 'my new girlfriend is a singer' scenario to me.

Yes, she did this to me last week too. But the guy that runs the jam yanked her after two songs. We weren’t that lucky last night.

Dude the same lady you and I chatted about? Dang man you need to start singing and become a set leader so you don't get stuck again.

One tip that you may want to have the organizer announce or put regarding the rules of the jam is provide information to the players such as: Key, Feel, etc. Also that it is a jam and not a showcase performance. She should have been yanked!!!

I’m working on the singing. It’s a real struggle bus right now. I can sing or play. Both is real real tough right now.

Just start a solo going into a verse (a measure early or so..) and if she keeps singing - keep soloing....

A blues jam without solos is like a day without sunshine.
