Since we were just discussing it, "Heat" is one of the most underrated films ever

Chihlidog

Kick Henry Jackassowski
I think maybe people overlook it because they think it must ONLY be about Deniro and Pacino being in it. I happen to love both of those guys, but Heat was an amazing movie ASIDE from that. It seems like not too many people have seen it which I continually find mind-boggling.

I think it needs a thread of its own so that we can appreciate what a great film it really was.

I liked Tom Sizemore in that one. From what i hear he can be a bit of a tool, but i always liked his acting, same with Enemy of the State.

And of course Saving Private Ryan, etc.

Yeah that really is his defining role for me. He wasnt a huge screen presence, but was very believable through the whole thing as one of the crew members. And he pissed ya off enough after the shootout that you didnt mind seeing him getting taken down by Hannah. As a matter of fact, it was only at that point that I started to like Vincent a little bit the first time I saw the movie.

GREAT film all around. Val Kilmer is in my top 5 favorite actors. Him, Kevin Sorbo, Marc Singer, James Remar and Ryan O'Neal would be the actors I really want to meet someday.

Robert Deniro pwns Val Kilmer. Dont get me wrong Val is great, he has done some really awesome roles including Chris Shiherlis, but Deniro pwns him all over the place.

Did you ever see Ronin? DeNiro is great.

And he did a great job as the nutcase in the remake of Cape Fear. :thu:

Yeeahh I'm gonna have to disagree with you there.

I didnt like Ronin at all and even Deniro being in it didnt make it much better for me. I kep laughing at the part where he's shot, near death, and then it's like "Eh, I'm Robert Deniro, I'm too tough to get hurt by this" and then he is all good.

Goodfellas
The Godfather Part II
Heat
Raging Bull
Awakenings (which I just saw for the first time the other day, as a matter of fact, and at times forgot I was watching Deniro, which just speaks that much more about what a great actor he is)

any of those roles make him one of the best actors of all time IMO, all of them together plus so many more classic, even legendary films just put him in a whole different category in my mind.

My 2 favorite roles from Kilmer aside from Heat were Top Gun and Real Genius. I like him well enough but just cant hold him in the same regard as an actor as I do Deniro.

Buzzkill. :embarrassed:

DeNiro had an absolutely stunning 20+ year run... even the lesser films that he made between '73 and '97 or so still tend to be incredibly entertaining films.

Mean Streets, Godfather II, Taxi Driver, 1900, The Last Tycoon, New York New York, The Deer Hunter, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Once Upon a Time in America, Brazil, The Mission, The Untouchables, Goodfellas, Awakenings, Backdraft, Cape Fear, Mad Dog & Glory, This Boy's Life, A Bronx Tale, Frankenstein, Casino, Heat, Wag the Dog, Jackie Brown...

Even the worst of those movies are either extremely fun, or notable for his memorable/iconic performances.

He's definitely not one of my favorite actors, but it's nearly impossible to name someone with a stronger filmography. Although the past decade has done a lot to negate it.

I totally forgot about Backdraft. Wow. One of my favorite movies, too, aside from Baldwins performance. Kurt Russell, Deniro, and DOnald Sutherland were all fantastic in that one.

I actually wasnt too big on his role in Casino. I like the movie but since I like him so much in the tough guy role I felt like he relied to much on Nicky to be the muscle, and the whole time I'm thinking to myself "But he could kick Pesci's ass!". I know, it isnt how I SHOULD view it but I cant help it, seeing them together in something even remotely similar to Goodfellas just gave me that mindset.

.

Thank you Mark. :embarrassed:

He's is just one of the greatest actors of our time. I'm not much of a movie watcher anymore but I went through a phase where I watched quite a few of the movies listed in F's post and was always blown away.

I even named the first track on our album Desert Center "Travis Bickell Day".

Wait, to be fair, I forgot about Kilmer's BEST role, IMO.

"Heat" is one of my all-time favorite movies and probably Michael Mann's best work. It's a total classic. I also really liked "Collateral" and his most recent "Public Enemies."
