Shower Cartridge Victory

Just wanted to share that I successfully repaired my shower yesterday. Not having a clue how I was going to approach repairing a leaking shower (not a plumber) you tube came to the rescue. With California and the water shortage, this was a must repair and not one I wanted to pay a plumber for.

I hate paying other people to fix stuff, but sometimes it's worth it to not deal with the hassle. Glad you got it sorted :thu:

Thanks Punchy!

It was an adventure that I never have undertaken before. The fun part was the company who manufacturers the shower valve (Valley) is no longer in business but thankfully there are alot of 3rd party parts manufacturers. Learned a lot by this repair.

Plumbing is one thing I actually like to do.
Just the clean side of thing though. I hate messing around with the large drains that go into the basement floor.

Faucet cartridges are always interesting.
Every manufacturer seemed to have a different way to do them.
The most challenging one I had was a Moen shower faucet in our main floor bath.
We don't use it on a regular basis, but I had to fix it because we were having house guests.
Everything I read and watched about replacing it said that it should just slide out once I got things torn down to a certain point.
This one would not move.
I finally went all hulk-rage on it and it popped out before I could get a good head of steam going. It was kinda anti-climactic. It made me giggle like an idiot.

The nice thing about Moen is that the guys that work the plumbing aisle at Home Desperate have a replacement in their apron pouch and they're free!

One of my showers needs fixing. Sadly the fix involves ripping open the wall in the next room to access the pipes without trashing the tile in the shower and replacing the entire faucet valve because a previous homeowner used a garbage part. It amazes me how many people think it’s a good idea to use cheap Chinese parts from Home Depot for plumbing.

And the same thing happened with the sprinkler system…

Nice work. I did one of those last year. It was kind of a pain in the ass to replace, as the original was really stuck in the shower valve. Anyway, I got it out and looked like a MAN in front of my mother in law. Of course, she is the one who told me the shower cartridge mix thing needed to be replaced in the first place...
